Overview
California Micro Devices introduces the CM1220 family of low capacitance
Zener diode arrays for electrostatic discharge protection. The CM1220
is available in 4-channel and 8-channel configurations, and is ideal
for data line filtering on wireless handsets and LCD modules. The
CM1220 provides up to ±15kV of ESD protection on each channel,
greatly exceeding the IEC6100-4-2 Level 4 contact discharge standard
(±8kV). By utilizing CMD's Centurion™ Zener
diode process technology, the CM1220 offers a very low input capacitance
of 14pF (typical), enabling a high level of ESD protection while
maintaining critical signal integrity.
The CM1220 is manufactured as a chip
scale packaged (CSP) device and is manufactured with OptiGuard™
coating for greater durability. The CM1220 is also available with
preformed eutectic (63Sn/37Pb composition) or lead-free (96.8Sn2.6Ag0.6Cu
composition) 0.30mm solder spheres for attachment to the PCB substrate.

Features
Robust ESD
Performance
Mobile electronic devices are constantly
handled, often resulting in potentially damaging ESD "strikes".
California Micro Devices' CM1220 application specific ESD solution
provides ±15kV protection from contact discharges, a level
that greatly exceeds the IEC61000-4-2 Level 4 standard. Their low
capacitance makes them ideal for protecting high speed I/O ports,
such as LCD and camera data interfaces, with a high level of ESD
protection while preserving signal integrity.
CSP Form Factor
and Cost Savings
California Micro Devices' new protection
array also features a high level of integration in a low profile
form factor (CSP), for a space savings of up to 50% versus discrete
implementations. California Micro Devices' single chip Application
Specific Integrated Passive™ (ASIP™) devices
offer customers the ability to significantly reduce their total
cost of ownership while facilitating design and manufacturability,
and improving time-to-market.
Features of the CM1220 include:
- 4 and 8 channels of ESD protection
- ±15kV ESD protection on each
channel (IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4, contact discharge)
- ±30kV ESD protection on each channel
(HBM)
- OptiGuard™ coated
for improved reliability
- Space-saving, low profile CSP form factor
ideal for mobile applications
- Optional lead free finishing
Product
Applications
The CM1220 is suitable for a number of applications where space
as well as performance are considerations. These include:
- LCD and camera datalines in mobile handsets
- I/O port protection for mobile handsets,
notebook computers, PDAs, etc.
- Keypads and buttons
- Wireless handsets
- Handheld PCs/PDAs
- LCD and camera modules
